Shady Khalil is the cofounder and the managing director of Greenish, a social enterprise focused on educating communities about the environment, and empowering them to develop solutions for their most pressing environmental challenges. Greenish core values focus on collaboration with the goal of building an environmental movement in Egypt and the MENA, and this is why all Greenish manuals, databases, market scans and researches are open source. Greenish has also co-founded the first environmental coalition in Egypt to advocate for a single-use plastic ban for more than 30 environmental organizations. Greenish has founded a student network of 2000+ students all over Egypt to promote action toward sustainability, building the students capacity through a one educational program followed by an incubation cycle to support their sustainability projects within their communities.
Greenish implemented a sustainability festival, the first of its kind in Egypt whichincubated many of the businesses, artists and NGO working on sustainability in Egypt. The festival was held under the name of 'Greenish Festival' in Cairo in 2021 and is going to happen every year in Cairo. Shady also co-founded VeryNile which is the first project focused on cleaning the River Nile from plastics by community volunteers and transforming it into products. VeryNile so far incubated thousands of volunteers and managed to remove 40 tons of plastic off the Nile in less than a year.
Shady is also a theater director, integrating theater techniques in facilitating 70+ workshops around Egypt on environmental awareness, gender equality and civic engagement. He is also currently also a Chevening scholar, completing his Master’s at the University of Sussex inenvironment, development and policy.
